1985 - Some athlete returns to transition yelling "the bridge is up, the bridge is up". It had not occurred to us to actually station some volunteers there to record bike nos. time stopped etc. We have since....

Not only do I love this race for its amazing course layout, volunteers and overall organization, but it holds great sentimental value to me as well. After the race in 2003, my husband proposed (complete with a t-shirt signed by Simon Whitfield, a participant in the relay thatyear, who wrote "Say Yes"). In 2005 I crossed the finish line with my 100lb Giant Schnauzer, and ended up in a tug of war with the leash (making a pretty funny finish line photo) and this year, I hope to carry my son across just days after his first birthday!

These are some memories from the very first few races beginning in 1984...

I began to volunteer back in 1984 after my wife had become involved in the organizing committee. That first year I remember being up at 3 am race morning and taking three safety pins an looping them onto a fourth pin that was then afixed to a race bib,

..the late Sammy Heusel, triathlete, bike and swim director, volunteer extradorinaire using a motorcyle helmet on the bike course because he didn't have a cycling helmet...

..a female cyclist whose bike had broken down on the course was given her dad's bike (also a competitor) to finish and he walked the rest of the bike course in to find her waiting at transition and they finished the run and the race together...

..Clive Morgan who has done each of the 24 races and just keeps on running...

..Jane and Bob McCaldron who have to have the record for being the most "mature" participants who have entered the race the most often and always finish with smiles...

..The early years race directors, Norm Staples, Bill Greer, Ed Grenda, Penny Carr-Harris, PJ Marshall, Sue Hinshchberger, Dick Sunderland, Doug Crowe, Gale Kiley, Bill McFadyen

..Al Cantlay of Runner's Choice who has through financial and personal support been the rock on which we built this race

Hi. I raced in 2006 and found K-town THE best organized triathlon I have ever participated in. And I have been doing this tri thing for 25 years... I had to cancel for 2007 and teamed up with a few guys and will show up this year again. My regular races are all in the Subaru series and this one is the only exception I make! Way to go, keep it up!

What an excellent race - the volunteers and coordinators are always professional and knowledgeable.
Post-race food is fantastic!
My only complaint is that by Sunday race-kit pick-up, only x-large shirts are available. What about ordering less x-large and more mediums?

This will be my ninth consecutive year of attending this race. We always come for the entire weekend. This race is by far my favorite - great city, course, race organization, volunteers, even weather, second to none. We also enjoy the shopping and the restaurants. And to wind down, who can beat the beautiful, relaxing drive along the Loyalist Parkway through Prince Edward County. I look forward to attending this event for another 25 years.

Participated in the 2005 as the runner in the relay. Barry our team leader and an excellent cyclist could not do the run that year and talked me and another fellow into doing the race with him. He promised we would be competitive. Sure enough our swimmer came out of the water in good position. Unfortunately Barry had a blow out with 5k left in the bike. No spare of course so he walked the last 5 k in his sock feet. Needless to say our time was slower than anticipated but a wonderful experience nonetheless. Great event and keep up the good work.

What a race! The course the crowd and all the athletes makes K Town one of my favorite races of all time. Enjoy it and kick some ass.

Congratulations on one of the BEST and one of the longest running races in North America. Your race remains one of my favourite races and I am looking forward to taking a look around this year as I race it vs. the head down approach I took twenty years ago!!

Looking forward to coming back and I hear that a lot of the old gaurd are returning to battle it out again - should be fun.

Cheers and congrats on 25 years!
